THE NEW CHIEFTAINS: BLACK RESILIENCE

£60.00

THE NEW CHIEFTAINS are a tribe of inspirational, talented people who have natural prowess, tenacity, leadership and individuality. This community, founded by Agenda Brown in 2014, are non-conformists who challenge the status quo - their instinct to succeed is driven by passion, instinct and endeavour. They are unlikely to identify themselves as CHIEFTAINS, even if they are high profile. They are not identified because of their celebrity, they are defined by their spirit!

Released in celebration of the 10 Year Anniversary, NEW CHIEFTAINS: BLACK RESILIENCE by Agenda Brown launches on 28th April 2025. Created by photographer Agenda Brown to mark an important milestone - the 10th Anniversary of this significant project - it follows a successful 20-site London wide awareness-raising billboard campaign in 2020.

“For me, BLACK RESILIENCE is knowing that when something is within reach but still seems far away, or your path feels blocked, you continue to stretch and drive yourself forward to attain it,” says Agenda Brown, founder & creator of THE NEW CHIEFTAINS. “The qualities that this takes and the experience of sustaining motivation for a Black person are VERY SPECIFIC.”

The stories and the people celebrated in BLACK RESILIENCE remind us of the depth of personal resources it takes to achieve our goals in life, and that for the Black community the hurdles, and therefore the drive, are steeper and require more fortitude to overcome.

This chapter and the wider series has huge potential as an inspirational platform. BLACK RESILIENCE features individuals who exemplify the qualities he saw as central to the life of a NEW CHIEFTAIN. Agenda’s photographic stories on each of these charismatic individuals are a powerful combination of the unique visual storytelling in his extraordinary photography, and the rich narratives inside insightful interviews - a unique aspect of his creative practice.

The publication contains 14 interviews, including chapter Ambassador and celebrated photographer James Barnor, with accompanying portraits. The publication is a numbered edition from 1-125, and comes with an A5 artist print. Edition number not specified at sale.

NEW CHIEFTAINS can be found in many different arenas, from education, design and philanthropy to food and music. They are a growing tribe of people with enigmatic personalities across numerous disciplines. Their qualities include: tenacity, resilience, passion, unconventionality and non-conformity. They are part of the tribe because of who they are, and what they do to enhance society and the human spirit. Their careers are inconsequential to their selection; it is their journey towards living successful lives that serve to remind us we all have the potential to be NEW CHIEFTAINS at the end of the day.
